Ghana, Rice, 2012

Ghana's estimated postharvest losses for rice in 2012 was 57,149 tonnes or 11.9% which had an estimated value of more than 80 million US dollar, which corresponds to 0.9% of national agricultural GDP.

As for nutrition 199 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 233 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Threshing and Shelling, and then Winnowing. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Northern.
