Burkina Faso, Millet, 2013

Burkina Faso's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2013 was 113,261 tonnes or 10.5% which had an estimated value of more than 46 million US dollar, which corresponds to 1.4% of national agricultural GDP.

As for nutrition 412 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 499 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Market storage, and then Transport from field. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Boucle du Mouhoun.
