Democratic Republic of the Congo, Millet, 2009

Democratic Republic of the Congo's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2009 was 5,004 tonnes or 11.2%.

As for nutrition 18 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 22 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Winnowing, and then Transport from field. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Bandundu.
