Eritrea's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for barley ranged from 839 tonnes in 2003 to 5,480 tonnes in 2005. The estimated loss percentages have been unchanged over time at 9.8%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest barley loss is estimated to be happening at Threshing and Shelling. In Eritrea, on average the highest quantity of barley production occurs in Debub (Southern).
