Ghana, Millet, 2013

Ghana's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2013 was 17,306 tonnes or 11.2% which had an estimated value of more than 14 million US dollar, which corresponds to 0.1% of national agricultural GDP.

As for nutrition 62 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 73 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Winnowing, and then Transport from field. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Northern.
