Mali's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for fonio ranged from 2,045 tonnes in 2016 to 6,178 tonnes in 2011. The estimated loss percentages have been unchanged over time at 11.6%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest fonio loss is estimated to be happening at Threshing and Shelling. In Mali, on average the highest quantity of fonio production occurs in Ségou.
