Malawi's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2005 was 1,939 tonnes or 12.1%.

In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Market storage, and then Winnowing. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Northern Region.
