Malawi's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for millet ranged from 1,939 tonnes in 2005 to 5,205 tonnes in 2020. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 11.3% and 12.1%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest millet loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Malawi, on average the highest quantity of millet production occurs in Southern Region.
