Malawi, Wheat, All years

Malawi's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for wheat ranged from 21 tonnes in 2022 to 586 tonnes in 2007. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 10.9% and 13.2%.

Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest wheat loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Malawi, on average the highest quantity of wheat production occurs in Southern Region. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated wheat lost postharvest ranged from 85 people in 2022 to 2,331 people in 2007.
