Namibia's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for maize ranged from 9,083 tonnes in 2008 to 9,111 tonnes in 2007. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 15.5% and 15.8%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest maize loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Namibia, on average the highest quantity of maize production occurs in Hardap. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated maize lost postharvest ranged from 36,684 people in 2008 to 36,800 people in 2007.
