Sudan, Millet, 2003

Sudan's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2003 was 129,672 tonnes or 8.8% which had an estimated value of more than 33 million US dollar.

As for nutrition 468 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 552 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Transport from field, and then Threshing and Shelling. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Darfur.
