Senegal, Millet, 2008

Senegal's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2008 was 91,683 tonnes or 11.4% which had an estimated value of more than 48 million US dollar, which corresponds to 2.0% of national agricultural GDP.

As for nutrition 333 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 400 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Market storage, and then Transport from field. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Kaffrine.
