Togo's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for fonio ranged from 425 tonnes in 2016 to 1,112 tonnes in 2012. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 11.7% and 23.4%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest fonio loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Togo, on average the highest quantity of fonio production occurs in Kara.
