Angola's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for sorghum ranged from 1,420 tonnes in 2012 to 8,921 tonnes in 2007. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 11.8% and 13.3%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest sorghum loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Angola, on average the highest quantity of sorghum production occurs in Huíla. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated sorghum lost postharvest ranged from 6,353 people in 2012 to 39,925 people in 2007.
