Benin's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for sorghum ranged from 10,473 tonnes in 2014 to 30,264 tonnes in 2010. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 10.4% and 18.0%. The largest losses in USD were estimated to have occurred in 2021 with a value of over 13 million USD.

Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest sorghum loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Benin, on average the highest quantity of sorghum production occurs in Alibori. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated sorghum lost postharvest ranged from 43,095 people in 2014 to 124,528 people in 2010.
