Eritrea, Maize, All years

Eritrea's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for maize ranged from 787 tonnes in 2003 to 4,700 tonnes in 2006. The estimated loss percentages have been unchanged over time at 17.2%.

Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest maize loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Eritrea, on average the highest quantity of maize production occurs in Debub (Southern). Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated maize lost postharvest ranged from 3,370 people in 2003 to 20,121 people in 2006.
