Ethiopia's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for wheat ranged from 317,939 tonnes in 2006 to 1,770,851 tonnes in 2005. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 12.5% and 14.2%. The largest losses in USD were estimated to have occurred in 2005 with a value of over 406 million USD.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest wheat loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Ethiopia, on average the highest quantity of wheat production occurs in Oromia.
