In 2021, Guinea's annual estimated postharvest losses were 294,951 tonnes for rice, 143,659 tonnes for maize, 56,815 tonnes for fonio, 31,145 tonnes for sorghum. The highest and lowest estimated postharvest loss percentages are 18.0% for maize and 11.7% for fonio. The costliest estimated postharvest losses in USD are for rice: over 311 million USD.

Within the value chain, for all crops the majority of loss is estimated to be happening at harvesting/field drying. Within Guinea, the highest postharvest losses in tonnes occur for rice in Kankan, for maize in Labé, for fonio in Labé, for sorghum in Kankan. Regarding the nutritional losses, the estimated rice grain lost postharvest could have met the annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements of 1,225,629 people.
