Guinea's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for sorghum ranged from 30,668 tonnes in 2011 to 31,626 tonnes in 2013. The estimated loss percentages have been unchanged over time at 12.4%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest sorghum loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Guinea, on average the highest quantity of sorghum production occurs in Kankan. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated sorghum lost postharvest ranged from 125,609 people in 2011 to 129,533 people in 2013.
