Guinea-Bissau's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for sorghum ranged from 1,563 tonnes in 2008 to 4,910 tonnes in 2000. The estimated loss percentages have been unchanged over time at 12.4%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest sorghum loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Guinea-Bissau, on average the highest quantity of sorghum production occurs in Gabú. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated sorghum lost postharvest ranged from 6,405 people in 2008 to 20,123 people in 2000.
