Lesotho's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for sorghum ranged from 133 tonnes in 2016 to 4,708 tonnes in 2018. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 10.4% and 11.7%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest sorghum loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Lesotho, on average the highest quantity of sorghum production occurs in Maseru. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated sorghum lost postharvest ranged from 563 people in 2016 to 19,872 people in 2018.
