Lesotho's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for wheat ranged from 156 tonnes in 2004 to 3,045 tonnes in 2010. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 10.1% and 14.4%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest wheat loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Lesotho, on average the highest quantity of wheat production occurs in Mokhotlong. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated wheat lost postharvest ranged from 599 people in 2004 to 11,656 people in 2010.
