Mali's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for millet ranged from 68,474 tonnes in 2001 to 154,154 tonnes in 2018. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 8.2% and 8.6%. The largest losses in USD were estimated to have occurred in 2012 with a value of over 74 million USD, equivalent to 1.6% of national agricultural GDP.

Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest millet loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Mali, on average the highest quantity of millet production occurs in Ségou. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated millet lost postharvest ranged from 305,933 people in 2001 to 688,738 people in 2018.
