Mauritania's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for millet ranged from 155 tonnes in 2012 to 855 tonnes in 2010. The estimated loss percentages have been unchanged over time at 8.8%.

Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest millet loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Mauritania, on average the highest quantity of millet production occurs in Hodh ech Chargui. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated millet lost postharvest ranged from 664 people in 2012 to 3,668 people in 2010.
