Senegal's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for fonio ranged from 187 tonnes in 2013 to 814 tonnes in 2021. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 11.7% and 23.6%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest fonio loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Senegal, on average the highest quantity of fonio production occurs in Sédhiou.
