Togo, Rice, All years

Togo's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for rice ranged from 7,261 tonnes in 2003 to 38,725 tonnes in 2012. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 11.9% and 22.9%. The largest losses in USD were estimated to have occurred in 2012 with a value of over 41 million USD, equivalent to 2.5% of national agricultural GDP.

Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest rice loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Togo, on average the highest quantity of rice production occurs in Savanes. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated rice lost postharvest ranged from 30,040 people in 2003 to 160,210 people in 2012.
