Uganda's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for millet ranged from 8,911 tonnes in 2019 to 112,549 tonnes in 2008. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 11.3% and 19.1%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest millet loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Uganda, on average the highest quantity of millet production occurs in Eastern. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated millet lost postharvest ranged from 39,504 people in 2019 to 498,938 people in 2008.
