Zambia's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for wheat ranged from 2,391 tonnes in 2006 to 11,934 tonnes in 2013. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 4.3% and 5.1%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest wheat loss is estimated to be happening at Household-level storage. In Zambia, on average the highest quantity of wheat production occurs in Central. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated wheat lost postharvest ranged from 9,560 people in 2006 to 47,725 people in 2013.
