Zimbabwe, Sorghum, All years

Zimbabwe's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for sorghum ranged from 4,494 tonnes in 2016 to 22,309 tonnes in 2017. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 12.2% and 12.7%. The largest losses in USD were estimated to have occurred in 2020 with a value of over 3 million USD.

Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest sorghum loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Zimbabwe, on average the highest quantity of sorghum production occurs in Masvingo. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated sorghum lost postharvest ranged from 19,493 people in 2016 to 96,772 people in 2017.
