Mali's estimated postharvest losses in tonnes for wheat ranged from 1,512 tonnes in 2008 to 7,816 tonnes in 2016. The estimated loss percentages fluctuated between 11.5% and 11.5%.
Within the value chain, the majority of the postharvest wheat loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying. In Mali, on average the highest quantity of wheat production occurs in Tombouctou. Regarding nutritional losses, the number of people whose annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements could have been met with the estimated wheat lost postharvest ranged from 6,048 people in 2008 to 31,277 people in 2016.
